Welcome to the latest edition of the AI Pulse newsletter! Your AI equivalent of a perfectly curated Netflix weekend: thought-provoking, expertly crafted, and sprinkled with a touch of excitement. Here’s what’s on this month’s playlist:
How is Wikipedia crafting it's bold AI strategy?
A throwback to a 2019 TED Talk that nailed the dynamic between humans and technology, and the importance of understanding process before you even begin.
If supply chain resilience were a Marvel movie, Jon would be assembling the ultimate AI-hero squad to tackle bottlenecks—spoiler alert: documents and processes are the unsung heroes of this blockbuster.
And speaking of blockbusters, have you seen our partnership with IBM watsonx.ai? Two powerhouses joining forces, and trust us, this is just the beginning.
So grab your coffee, channel your inner Jedi, and let’s explore what the AI experts have in store for us this month!
Wikipedia’s AI Strategy: Transparency and Innovation Can Coexist
As generative AI reshapes how we access and produce knowledge, Wikipedia is charting a path that keeps humans firmly in the loop. Their new AI strategy doesn’t reject automation—it embraces it thoughtfully. By using AI to enhance editorial workflows while reinforcing transparency, multilingual access, and community governance, this is a blueprint for ethical, human-first AI. It’s encouraging to see one of the internet’s most trusted platforms take a stance that proves innovation and responsibility can (and should) go hand in hand.
AI Without People (and Process) Is Just Bureaucracy on Steroids
I recently came across a TED Talk that felt eerily timely. Sylvain Duranton of BCG warns of a dystopian “algocracy,” where AI makes critical decisions autonomously based solely on past data — no judgment, no nuance, no exceptions. He calls out execs with a “human-zero mindset” who champion this rigid future, then makes a compelling (and very amusing) case for the only viable (albeit more lengthy, costly, and difficult) path: human plus AI.
Real-world examples back him up — the most effective automation gives 70% of the weight to people and process. It’s not just smarter; it creates synergies neither humans nor AI can achieve alone.
Only later did I realize the talk was from 2019 — not exactly ancient, but it might as well be, given how fast things have moved. And yet, the message feels more urgent than ever. #AgenticAutomation
Boosting Supply Chain Resilience with the Power of Agentic AI
Looking beyond tariffs, agentic AI is supercharging supply chain automation, accelerating process efficiency faster than humanly possible, and taking growth to the next level. IBM reports 62% of supply chain leaders recognize that AI agents embedded into operational workflows accelerate speed to action, hastening decision-making, recommendations, and communications.
Those making larger AI investments in supply chain operations see additional capabilities within reach. For example, executives in leading organizations say that gen AI will enable improved supply chain management 68% more frequently than peers. They also expect gen AI-enabled visualization and simulation to uncover bottlenecks in real time 61% more frequently; and they anticipate gen AI will accelerate innovation for supply chain product design 36% more frequently.
Did you know that the quest to teach machines how to understand documents started way back in the 1970s? Ray Kurzweil’s early OCR systems could read printed text aloud—but they couldn’t make sense of what they were reading. Fast forward to today, and we’re still solving the same challenge: giving AI the domain-specific smarts to not just read, but truly understand business documents and processes. Further evidence in favour of using Purpose-built AI to avoid AI-fuelled errors. According to KPMG study of using general-purpose/generative AI in the workplace:
57% of workers admit to making mistakes in their work due to artificial intelligence errors
50% of workers use AI in the workplace without knowing whether it’s allowed
More than four in 10 (44%) are “knowingly using it improperly” at work
To remain agile in today's ever-evolving regulatory landscape, transportation and logistics providers must ensure that documents aren't holding them back. Learn how CustomsTrack used Document AI to reduce customs clearance time between the UK and EU to five minutes.
